Helsinki police investigate attempted murder after tram stop stabbing

Police in Helsinki are investigating a stabbing at a tram stop in the city’s Hermanni district as an attempted murder, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

A 16-year-old boy is suspected of stabbing a 17-year-old boy on Hermannin rantatie on Monday afternoon. Both the suspect and the victim are minors and reportedly knew each other, having attended the same educational institution.

The suspect left the scene before police arrived but turned himself in later that evening. The victim sustained injuries to the torso and limbs and remains hospitalised, though police state there is no risk to their life. No bystanders were endangered during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
