Faroese election winners secure 55.4% of votes in parliamentary ballot
The final vote count from the Faroe Islands’ parliamentary election confirms that the top two candidates, Sjúrður Skaale and Anna Falkenberg, together received 55.4% of all votes cast, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Skaale, the leading candidate, secured 10,823 votes, while Falkenberg received 5,304 votes—totaling 16,127 votes out of 29,111 cast. The result means the two candidates collectively outperformed the remaining 50 candidates combined.
Malan Johansen, chair of both the parliamentary and general election committees, stated that minor errors—primarily misaligned ballot markings—were corrected during the recount. These adjustments did not alter the final outcome.
The recount of the general election was completed Monday, followed immediately by the more complex task of tallying votes for the Løgting (Faroese Parliament) election, which involved a larger number of ballots. Johansen confirmed that 27 officials, including committee members Bárður Larsen and Ingibjørg Berg, are conducting the parliamentary vote count at Hotel Hafnia in Tórshavn. She expects the final results to be ready later on Monday, well before midnight.
