A 190-kilometre hiking trail along Denmark’s longest river, Gudenåen, has opened, accompanied by a new app that alerts users to flooded or muddy sections, reports Danish broadcaster DR.

The route, named Gudenåstien, stretches from the river’s source near Tørring in central Jutland to its mouth at Randers Fjord. The accompanying app provides real-time updates on trail conditions, including water levels and potential obstacles, to help hikers avoid wet or impassable areas.

Project manager Lise Bjerre from the Danish Nature Agency told DR that the trail offers a mix of landscapes, from forests and meadows to cultural sites. “It’s a unique way to experience Denmark’s nature and history along the river,” she said.

The app also includes information on nearby shelters, parking, and points of interest. Authorities advise hikers to check conditions before setting out, as parts of the trail may be temporarily closed due to flooding.
