Three Faroese lawmakers have confirmed they will not stand in the upcoming parliamentary elections, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reported Thursday.

Magnus Rasmussen of the Union Party, Ingilín Didriksen Strøm of the Social Democratic Party, and Bjørt Samuelsen of the Republic party appeared on the radio programme Valfepur to announce their decisions.

Samuelsen stated that while she could not provide a full explanation, “there comes a time when one must make certain decisions, and I felt this was necessary now.”

Strøm reflected on her time in the Løgting (Faroese Parliament), saying, “I have used my term to step back and ask myself why I ran in the first place.”

Rasmussen kept his remarks brief, noting, “I had intended to say that my hat was in the ring for the public vote, and I have been glad to serve.”

The three join a growing list of incumbent politicians opting not to seek another term in the 2026 elections.
