The Faroe Islands conducted its first parliamentary election at Hoyvík sports hall on Thursday, with a midday voter turnout of 14.3 percent, according to public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

Eyðfríð L. Jacobsen, chair of the polling station in Hoyvík, confirmed the turnout figures. The facility serves 3,430 eligible voters in the Tórshavn municipality, where participation exceeded the turnout recorded during Tuesday’s municipal elections.

In Klaksvík, 323 voters had cast ballots by 11 AM, representing 8.3 percent of eligible voters—an increase from the 227 who had voted by the same time in the last parliamentary election.

On the remote island of Mykines, 85 percent of eligible voters had participated by midday, reflecting the high engagement typical of smaller communities.

Polling station manager Jákup í Løðu and local fisherman Bent Johnny millum Garðarnar were among those interviewed by Kringvarp Føroya about their voting experiences.
