Woman threatens police with air rifle and dog in Kurikka

A woman in Kurikka, western Finland, threatened police officers with an air rifle and a large dog before being apprehended with the help of a drone and a stun gun, according to a report by Finnish broadcaster Yle.

The incident began Wednesday evening when police responded to a suspected drunk driving case in Kurikka. The woman, who was the suspect, barricaded herself inside a house and refused to let officers enter.

After some time, she emerged holding a scoped air rifle, which police initially mistook for a conventional firearm. The woman pointed the weapon at officers and verbally threatened to kill them while attempting to incite her dog to attack. The responding patrol retreated and called for backup.

The suspect later fled the house with her dog across fields toward a forested area. Police located her using a drone, but she again threatened officers with the air rifle and the dog upon their approach. She was eventually subdued with commands and a stun gun.

Authorities confirmed the weapon was an air rifle equipped with a telescopic sight. The woman is now under investigation for violent resistance against an official, aggravated drunk driving, and illegal threats.
