The Faroese parliamentary elections officially opened on Thursday with long queues forming outside polling stations, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports. Voting began at 10:00 local time under clear weather, with polling stations remaining open until 20:00.

Lines of voters were already visible early in the morning at polling locations, including at Høllin á Hálsi in the capital Tórshavn. A total of 160 candidates from seven party lists are running for seats in the Løgting, the Faroese parliament. Of these, 62 are women, representing 38.75 percent of all candidates.

Voter participation in the 2022 elections reached 88.06 percent. Early indications suggest similarly high engagement this year, with many arriving shortly after polls opened.
