Union party secures decisive mandate in Faroese parliamentary election
The Union Party has won a clear majority in the Faroese parliament, with a platform that strengthens ties to the Danish realm, according to party leader Anna Falkenberg in an interview with Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya on Tuesday.
Falkenberg, the party’s top candidate, confirmed the victory after exiting the polling station, calling the campaign “a long election battle—two in one.” She praised her party’s unified effort and clear political messaging while acknowledging that winning a second term is always more challenging.
“There is support for a single voice in parliament that upholds the union with the Danish realm and seeks real reforms within the kingdom we want,” Falkenberg stated.
Her father, former party leader Benny Falkenberg, described the result as “a cross to bear” but expressed confidence in his daughter’s leadership. Anna Falkenberg declined to comment on other parties’ election performances.
