Sjúrður Skaale, a member of the Faroese parliament, has admitted that his public display of apparent insanity was largely a calculated political move, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Skaale abruptly left the broadcaster’s live programme Tinggáttin on Tuesday evening, refusing to discuss a favourable opinion poll that secured his parliamentary seat. In an interview the following day, he acknowledged that his outburst was “70 percent tactic, 30 percent real.”

“The sweet bits were well received,” Skaale told reporters, referring to his emotional reaction when rival candidate Tróndur Vatnhamar entered the studio. He described his behaviour as a mix of “anger and feigned insanity” designed to manipulate public perception.

The incident follows recent criticism of Skaale’s campaign strategies, including accusations of exploiting political chaos to consolidate his position in Klaksvík, the Faroe Islands’ second-largest town.
