Faroese MP calls for abolition of Folketing elections
Faroese politician Agga Niclasen has dismissed the Folketing elections as meaningless for the Faroe Islands, comparing them to “an East German parking lot” and arguing they should be abolished, Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Niclasen, a member of the Faroese parliament, stated that the elections once served as an indicator for the Faroese parliamentary elections but no longer hold relevance. “It used to be that you could use the Folketing elections as a kind of sign of how things would go in the Løgting elections, but you can’t really do that anymore,” he said.
He cited increased personal voting and the fact that the elections are held just two days apart as reasons for their diminished significance.
