Liberal Party meeting descends into chaos as technical failures delay leadership vote
The Liberal Party’s national conference on Sunday was marred by nearly four and a half hours of technical disruptions, delaying the re-election of party leader Simona Mohamsson until after 9 p.m., Swedish public broadcaster SVT reports.
Arman Teimouri, chair of the meeting, described the event as chaotic, with persistent issues in audio and video connections forcing repeated removals of participants. Despite the turmoil, Mohamsson secured 95 votes in favour with 80 abstentions, retaining her position as party leader.
Teimouri, who remained at the helm throughout the ordeal, credited his five-year-old son for helping him maintain composure. “It’s a bit thanks to him that I had the patience you get when you have small children,” he told SVT. “You should always keep a sparkle in your eye.”
The prolonged technical failures drew criticism from Teimouri himself, who acknowledged flaws in the process. The meeting’s outcome came only after extensive delays, with the final vote concluding late in the evening.
