Elderly man dies after being trapped under van on pedestrian crossing in Pori
An elderly pedestrian has died after being struck and trapped under a van on a marked crossing in the Finnish city of Pori, police reported on Monday. Authorities are investigating the incident as gross negligent homicide, aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, and driving without a valid license.
The accident occurred at around 9:30 AM at the intersection of Antinkatu and Liisankatu, according to a statement from Southwest Finland Police. The man, whose age was not specified, was crossing Antinkatu when he was hit by the van. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died a few hours later.
Police detained the driver, a man in his 40s, at the scene. Preliminary breathalyzer and drug tests returned negative results, and no passengers were present in the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities conducting interviews and technical examinations to determine the circumstances of the collision.
