Polling stations for the Faroe Islands’ parliamentary election opened at 9 a.m. local time Tuesday, with 38,945 eligible voters—552 more than in the 2022 election—according to a report by Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

A total of 32 polling stations are open until 8 p.m., though voters already in line by closing time will still be allowed to cast their ballots. Five political parties are fielding candidates in this election, down from previous years, as the Progress Party and Self-Government Party are not participating.

In 2022, voter turnout reached 71.31 percent. This year, 52 candidates—17 women and 35 men—are running across the five party lists.
