Faroese election poll shows Self-Government Party gaining a seat and Republic party largest
A new opinion poll by Lóður for Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya shows the Self-Government Party would win a parliamentary seat if elections were held now, while the Republic party remains the largest with nine seats.
The survey, conducted between 17–21 March, indicates that 68 percent of respondents have decided which party to vote for in the upcoming Faroese parliamentary election, while 21 percent remain undecided. Among those who have made a decision, 12 percent say they may still change their choice.
The Republic party (Tjóðveldi) leads with 17.1 percent of the vote, retaining its six seats. However, the poll projects the party would lose some support compared to the 2022 election.
The Union Party (Sambandsflokkurin) holds steady with seven seats and 21.3 percent of the vote, a slight increase of 1.4 percentage points since 2022. The Social Democratic Party (Javnaðarflokkurin) would lose three seats, dropping to six with 17.8 percent—an 8.8 percentage point decline from the last election.
The Self-Government Party (Sjálvstýri), which received 2.8 percent in 2022 and no seats, now polls at 3.1 percent, enough to secure one seat. The Progress Party (Framsókn) would lose one seat, leaving it with two, while the Centre Party (Miðflokkurin) maintains its two seats with a minor increase to 6.6 percent.
The People’s Party (Fólkaflokkurin) remains the largest, gaining nine seats—one more than in the previous poll—with 27.7 percent of the vote, up 9 percentage points from 2022.
The poll surveyed 875 randomly selected Faroese residents aged 18–75, with a margin of error between 1.3 and 3.4 percent.
