One of the two men charged in connection with the double homicide in Kopervik has denied criminal responsibility, his defence lawyer told Dagbladet on Sunday.

Odd Arild Helland, representing one of the suspects in his 30s, confirmed that his client underwent extensive questioning on Sunday and has consented to pre-trial detention ahead of a custody hearing on Monday. “This is not an admission of guilt, but an understanding that police need time to investigate,” Helland stated.

The two suspects, both men in their 30s, were arrested Saturday evening at an address in Kopervik following what police described as “a series of investigative steps,” including witness interviews and technical evidence, according to police prosecutor Fredrik Martin Soma.

Authorities earlier confirmed that the two victims—a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s—were found dead in a shared residential community in Kopervik. Investigators believe there was a prior relationship or acquaintance between the suspects and the deceased.

Ben Einar Guldhaug, defence lawyer for the second suspect, told Haugesunds Avis that his client’s interrogation has been postponed indefinitely due to health concerns. “Both police and I agree that it would not be responsible to proceed with questioning at this time,” Guldhaug said.

Police have cordoned off a large area around the residential community as part of the ongoing investigation.
