Sjálvstýri fails to enter Faroese parliament as party set to dissolve

Sjálvstýri, a political party in the Faroe Islands, will not secure parliamentary representation in the upcoming election, prompting the party to dissolve. The announcement was made by party leader Sámal Petur í Grund on national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

Speaking on the broadcaster’s morning program Andgletturin, Petur í Grund stated that the party had exhausted all internal challenges but still failed to surpass the threshold needed to enter the Løgting, the Faroese parliament. Recent opinion polls have consistently placed Sjálvstýri below the required level of support.

The party’s leader acknowledged that while there remains a slim chance of securing the necessary votes, the prospects are increasingly unlikely. Sjálvstýri has not met the parliamentary threshold in any of the most recent opinion surveys conducted.
