Former Liberal Party leader Lars Leijonborg to run for parliament again
Former Liberal Party leader Lars Leijonborg will stand as a candidate for the party in Sweden’s upcoming parliamentary election, according to a statement released by Liberalerna (L) on Thursday.
“Liberalerna is in a difficult position but is definitely needed in Swedish politics. That’s why it feels good to have the opportunity to contribute,” Leijonborg said in the party’s press release.
Leijonborg previously served as leader of Liberalerna—then known as Folkpartiet—from 1997 to 2007. The party has faced declining support in recent polls, with some analysts questioning its long-term survival.
Swedish public broadcaster SVT reported that it has reached out to Leijonborg for further comment.
