Faroese appeals court upholds conviction in 2007 child sexual assault case
The Faroese Eastern High Court has upheld a lower court’s conviction of a 38-year-old man for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 2007, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The man was sentenced to nine months in prison, with three months suspended. He must also pay 40,000 Danish kroner (approximately €5,400) in compensation to the victim. The defendant had pleaded guilty to the charge.
The case was prosecuted under Section 222 of the Faroese Penal Code, which criminalises sexual acts with children under 15 years old.
