Former Centre Party leader Liv Signe Navarsete will step down as regional governor of Vestland on 1 September, according to an announcement from the Governor’s Office on Thursday.

Navarsete, 67, has held the position since September 2022. In a statement, she called her tenure “a privilege” but said the time was right to pass on the role.

“It has been an honour to lead this office and work alongside so many skilled colleagues on an important public mission,” she said. “At the same time, I now want more time for family and other priorities.”

Navarsete previously served as Norway’s transport minister and leader of the Centre Party.

The Governor’s Office will now begin the process of appointing her successor.
