A total of more than 84,000 applications were submitted in Finland’s joint application system for post-basic education, according to the Finnish National Agency for Education (Opetushallitus).

The application period, which closed on Tuesday, saw an increase of 2,000 applicants compared to last year. Over 65,000 students are completing basic education this spring, with 98 percent applying for further studies through the joint application system.

Of the applicants, 55 percent sought places in upper secondary schools (lukio), while 39 percent applied for vocational education. Approximately 88,000 study places were available in total. The results of the student selection process will be published in mid-June.
