Faroese police have issued a warning after receiving reports of SMS messages falsely claiming to be from Netflix, attempting to trick recipients into revealing personal payment details, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The fraudulent messages, written in Faroese, informed recipients that their Netflix account would be suspended within 24 hours unless they updated their payment information. Police confirmed the scam as a phishing attempt and urged the public not to respond.

At least two individuals contacted authorities, including one person who does not even have a Netflix subscription. Police emphasised that legitimate companies will never request sensitive financial details via text message.

Phishing scams typically use deceptive messages to lure victims into disclosing passwords, credit card numbers, or other confidential information. Authorities advise verifying such requests directly through official company channels.
