Two separate two-vehicle collisions and multiple reports of abandoned cars were recorded on the Hellisheiði mountain pass in southwest Iceland on Monday, according to national broadcaster RÚV.

The first crash occurred near the Nesjavellir geothermal power plant, where two vehicles collided. No serious injuries were reported, but the road was temporarily obstructed. A second collision took place later near the Hengill volcanic area, also involving two cars.

Authorities additionally received multiple reports of vehicles left unattended along the roadside, likely due to hazardous winter driving conditions. Police urged drivers to exercise caution, as snow and ice have made sections of the route treacherous.

Hellisheiði, a key route between Reykjavík and southern Iceland, frequently experiences challenging weather, particularly during winter storms.
