A mother and her three sons have been remanded in custody for four weeks on suspicion of involvement in the bombing of the US Embassy in Oslo, while the family’s landlord described the mother as a “kind and good” tenant, Dagbladet reports.

The four were detained Friday in connection with the explosion outside the embassy in the early hours of Sunday. The youngest brother, in his 20s, has admitted to placing the bomb but claims he acted alone. The other three—his two brothers and their mother—deny any involvement.

All four were remanded in custody with restrictions on mail and visits. Their lawyers indicated potential appeals, with one calling the court’s decision “surprising” and based on “speculation.”

The family rented an Oslo apartment, which police searched Friday. The landlord told Dagbladet the mother had been a reliable tenant for years, with no complaints. The mother, in her 50s, reportedly works at a school for children and adolescents in Oslo.

Police described the bomb as “very powerful” and homemade, with welding work suggesting technical expertise. Authorities confirmed seizures from the apartment but declined to specify evidence. The youngest brother had registered a metalworking business in February, raising questions about the bomb’s construction.

Police prosecutor Christian Hatlo stated they have “a theory” about where the bomb was made but declined further comment. When asked if foreign state involvement was suspected, Hatlo said hypotheses “remain unchanged” from previous statements.

The mother is accused of complicity, though her exact alleged role was not disclosed. Police continue to investigate potential travel links among the suspects.
