Ole Sæter leaves Rosenborg for Vålerenga in search of freedom and fresh start
Ole Sæter, known for his outspoken personality during his time at Rosenborg, has completed his move to Oslo club Vålerenga, calling it a necessary change to grow both as a player and a person.
The striker, who struggled with limited playing time last season, described his departure from Trondheim as a step toward new challenges. “I needed something new to grow as a person,” Sæter said. “Here in Vålerenga, it’s more accepted to be a little different, and that means a lot to me.”
Sæter admitted adjusting to life in Oslo has been difficult—joking that he relies on Google Maps to navigate—but he feels the club’s culture suits him better. “I’ve always been an intuitive player, and here I get the freedom to play with freedom while being myself,” he said.
Known for his colorful remarks and fear of indifference, Sæter dismissed claims that he seeks attention for its own sake. “I hate when people don’t care. The worst thing in football is silence,” he said. “At Vålerenga, people care in a way that’s perfect for me.”
After years of injuries, Sæter said his physical condition is now stronger than ever, with a goal of staying fit throughout the season. Vålerenga assistant coach Petter Myhre praised his quick adaptation, calling him a “social guy who fits well in the dressing room.”
Football analyst Carl-Erik Torp believes the move could unlock Sæter’s potential. “Vålerenga has a tradition of embracing unique players, and that suits Sæter perfectly,” Torp said. “If he stays healthy, he has what it takes to be the league’s top scorer.”
