Temperatures across Finland this week are reaching levels typically seen in mid-April, with southern and central regions seeing highs of 7–8°C by Monday, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

Meteorologist Eveliina Tuovinen confirmed the unseasonably warm conditions, noting that current temperatures are about 4–5°C above average for this time of year. “We’re essentially a month ahead in terms of warmth,” she said.

The week begins with overcast skies on Monday, clearing gradually as temperatures rise. By Tuesday, above-freezing conditions will extend as far north as northern Lapland, with southern Finland maintaining similar highs.

A shift arrives midweek as Wednesday brings windy conditions, acting as a “dividing line” in the week’s weather pattern, Tuovinen explained. Though temperatures remain above freezing nationwide, the wind may make it feel cooler under cloudier skies.

The latter half of the week will see winds subside, giving way to sunny and dry conditions. Southern Finland could reach 10°C or higher by the weekend, though snow cover persists in central and northern Lapland (60–90 cm deep). Western regions are largely snow-free, while parts of Uusimaa and areas to the east still have around 10 cm of snow.

The warm spell is expected to further reduce remaining snowpack.
