A controversial chief physician from the Regional Psychiatry Department in Randers has received a formal professional directive from the Danish Patient Safety Authority, as noted in the Authorization Register. This physician was dismissed in the spring, and the Central Denmark Region is currently conducting an extensive review of 1,500 patient records to assess whether the care provided to psychiatric patients met appropriate standards.

The directive stems from inadequate documentation and insufficient treatment plans. It includes requirements for the physician to maintain patient records that meet established standards, ensuring that notes contain necessary information for safe and effective care. Additionally, treatment plans must be developed in a way that facilitates patient involvement and influence over their treatment and overall circumstances, including detailed descriptions of the nature and content of the treatments offered.

The authority issued the directive just weeks ago, following an independent professor’s evaluation of ten patient cases handled by the physician. The professor determined that several cases significantly deviated from recognized professional standards, citing persistent and substantial deficiencies indicative of repeated negligence and carelessness.

The notification also indicated that the physician’s record-keeping is so lacking that it hampers the ability to assess their professional competency. Consequently, the Danish Patient Safety Authority will continue its investigation into the physician’s conduct and determine if further actions are warranted. The physician has chosen not to comment on the situation throughout this process.
