Girl testifies against accused in human trafficking case at Trøndelag District Court in Norway
A 12-year-old girl has recounted her harrowing experience during court proceedings against a man in his 20s, who allegedly offered her for sexual services on Snapchat. The girl stated in a specially arranged questioning that she had initially hoped to earn money but later realized it was not worth the cost. She expressed her belief that the defendant would not have engaged if he had considered her age.
In court, the accused claimed he attempted to help the girl financially by advertising her on social media. He expressed regret, stating he didn’t think of the implications at the time. The young girl described their relationship as having started out merely fine but turned horrifically wrong. She admitted to accepting payment for sexual acts, feeling uncomfortable despite receiving money.
The defendant contended that he provided financial support to the girl out of kindness rather than in exchange for sexual favors, suggesting that a closer relationship had developed.
In his testimony, one potential buyer, a man in his 30s, said he backed out of the arrangement due to hesitations about not being able to speak directly with the girl and concerns about her stated age. He noted that upon learning she was only 12, he felt shocked.
The accused faces serious charges, including severe human trafficking, exploitation of the girl for prostitution, and multiple counts of sexual offenses against minors. He has admitted guilt regarding seven of the eight charges but denies wrongdoing concerning the attempted sexual engagement with another minor.
The trial is set to proceed at the Trøndelag District Court later this month.
