A recent survey indicates that the Social Democratic Alliance is currently the most favored party in Reykjavík, with leader Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir obtaining significant popularity. Despite previous strong performances, the ruling coalition and the mayor are perceived to have underperformed.

The Social Democratic Alliance stands at 25.0%, a slight decrease from earlier polls this year but nearly five percentage points higher than in the last election. The Independence Party follows closely, garnering 23.4%. The Progress Party, however, is nearing a collapse, polling at just 3.0%, down from earlier figures this year and representing a significant decline compared to past elections.

Meanwhile, the Left-Green Movement is tied with the Progress Party at 3.0%, which is lower than their last electoral outcome of 4.0%. In contrast, the Reform Party has seen a resurgence, tripling its previous support to 14.9%.

The Pirate Party remains steady since the last election at just below 12%, now recording 8.0%. Interestingly, the Socialist Party has increased its support from 7.8% to 10.4%. The Centre Party appears positioned to enter the city council, polling at 5.9%.

Collectively, the parties comprising the ruling coalition hold 50.9% of voter support, which is a low point according to this survey. Public sentiment towards the elected representatives is notably negative, with only 22% approving the governing coalition’s performance.

A mere 17% express satisfaction with Mayor Einar Þorsteinsson, while Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir is recognized by 24.7% of respondents as the most competent council member.
