A court has upheld a suspended two-month sentence for a bus driver involved in a fatal accident with a pedestrian. The incident occurred when the driver, operating a city bus, struck a woman who was crossing the street at a green light. According to the driver, he did not see her due to certain conditions at the time of the accident. However, the judge concluded that the driver should have exercised greater caution in that situation.
The court established that had the driver been more attentive to his surroundings, he would have noticed the woman as she stepped onto the crosswalk. The driver’s significant negligence was determined to be the cause of the tragic accident. In addition to the sentence, the court ordered the driver to pay two million in compensation each to the victim’s husband and daughter.
