A municipal representative from Lapinlahti, Jorma Ruotsalainen, has decided to resign from the local council, citing personal reasons for his departure. Ruotsalainen faces serious allegations, having been charged with five counts of severe hunting violations as part of a larger illegal hunting case that involves a total of 31 suspects.

The accusations were disclosed on Monday, and initially, Ruotsalainen indicated that he would not resign from his council position due to the ongoing nature of the legal proceedings. However, documents from the municipal executive board reveal that his resignation request was dated for the following day, Tuesday.

The council will address Ruotsalainen’s resignation during its upcoming meeting. He is set to be replaced by Irma Korhonen, the first deputy representative from the Social Democratic Party, on the council. Additionally, as Ruotsalainen has requested to step down, he will also vacate his role as a deputy member of the municipal executive board. The council will appoint a new deputy member to fill this vacancy.

This development marks a significant turn in local governance amidst ongoing legal issues.
