Authorities investigate shooting incident in Tampere injuring two bystanders

Authorities in Tampere are investigating a shooting incident from September, which they suspect injured two bystanders. According to the lead investigator, it is believed that the bullet struck one student in the body and grazed another’s clothing. Thankfully, neither individual sustained serious injuries, although specific details regarding the injuries remain undisclosed.

The incident occurred in a busy part of downtown, where a student event was taking place, drawing a large crowd of university attendees. Law enforcement is treating the shooting as a case of aggravated assault and attempted aggravated assault.

A 37-year-old man has been detained by the Pirkanmaa district court on suspicion of homicide, endangerment, and gun-related offenses. Furthermore, he is also suspected of killing a 35-year-old woman, who was the mother of a small child with her at the time of the shooting. Reports indicate that the woman was pregnant. The child was unharmed during the incident.

The suspect managed to flee the scene initially but was later apprehended by police in the area of Ylöjärvi. The authorities have not disclosed any information regarding the motive behind the alleged crime.

Lead investigator Jari Luoto mentioned that preliminary investigations related to the shooting on Hämeenkatu are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with charges needing to be filed by January 15.
