Margrethe Bergane, a newcomer to Norway’s elite cross-country ski team, shares her aspirations for the upcoming season. Competing on the World Cup circuit poses significant challenges, but she anticipates thrilling experiences along the way.

This season marks a change for the team, as former champion Marit Bjørgen has taken on the role of assistant coach. Additionally, Therese Johaug, another notable skier, has announced her return with an eye toward the World Championships in Trondheim.

The World Championships are set to begin on February 25, and for Bergane, receiving a selection call would be a dream come true. “It would be amazing to compete at a home championship,” she expressed, emphasizing the importance of excelling in the World Cup leading up to the event.

To qualify, Bergane recognizes the necessity of strong performances in the upcoming races. With past successes, including a sixth and a tenth place finish in Holmenkollen and Trondheim respectively, she aims to elevate her results this season. “The goal is to participate in several World Cup events and improve my performance compared to before,” she explained.

This weekend marks the season opener, taking place at Beitostølen, where Bergane is eager to measure her progress. The schedule includes a sprint on Friday, a 10-kilometer classic on Saturday, and a 10-kilometer freestyle on Sunday. “After months of training since May, I’m excited to finally get started and see how I stack up against others,” she said, reflecting on her preparation and anticipation for the competition.
