The government plans to allow free passage for vehicles traveling from Suðuroy through the Sandoy tunnel. This was confirmed by the Prime Minister, Aksel V. Johannesen.

During a parliamentary session, member Helgi Abrahamsen inquired about the feasibility of exempting vehicles utilizing the Suðuroy tunnel from tolls when driving through the Sandoy tunnel. He pointed out that this proposal presents a financial challenge; the Sandoy tunnel’s financing is interconnected with the Eysturoy tunnel.

This means that if vehicles from Suðuroy are permitted to travel free through the Sandoy tunnel, drivers using the Eysturoy tunnel would, in effect, also have to bear the costs for the Suðuroy tunnel.

The Prime Minister noted that the loans for both the Eysturoy and Sandoy tunnels are expected to be repaid by 2039.
