Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested following a violent incident in Frogner, Oslo, during the early hours of August 4, 2024. He has since been charged with multiple offenses, including violence, sexual assault, and threats, with several victims involved.

On Tuesday morning, authorities announced an expansion of the charges against Høiby. He was apprehended in a vehicle near Skaugum the previous evening and is now facing charges of sexual conduct without penetration against a woman in her twenties. According to police reports, Høiby is accused of having sexual relations with someone who was unconscious or incapable of resisting. Høiby has denied these allegations.

Police have reportedly seized video evidence believed to show the alleged incident. A significant media presence has gathered at Oslo District Court as both domestic and international journalists await the bail hearing. The court is deliberating whether to conduct proceedings behind closed doors, limiting press access until a decision is made.

The incident that led to the charges is said to have occurred at the victim’s home in March of this year. Her legal representative stated that the police initiated the report, emphasizing that the victim chooses to cooperate fully with the investigation despite feeling considerable pressure from media coverage and anxiety over being identified.

Høiby has been in custody since his arrest and has undergone questioning. While he contests the basis for the charges, his legal counsel argues for his release, asserting that the circumstances are more nuanced than what is presented in the media. He faces other accusations, including harassment and breach of protective orders relating to previous relationships.
