A company set to acquire the Swedish vehicle inspection service, Bilprovningen, has been linked to a scandal involving faulty breast implants that were prone to rupturing. These implants, known as PIP implants, were approved by the certification body TüV Rheinland, which is poised to purchase Bilprovningen from the government for approximately 1.2 billion kronor. The government is aware of the controversy that erupted in 2010 but maintains that the company meets the necessary criteria for prospective buyers. Officials highlighted that German courts have deemed TüV Rheinland’s actions as “responsible” and compliant with legal standards.
