Tórshavn’s municipal government has outlined its primary focus areas for the next four years, emphasizing housing, childcare, fire safety, and environmental issues. Leading the initiative is Elsa Berg, at just 28 years old, the youngest mayor in the capital’s history.

Berg has convened the newly elected council for a meeting at 5:30 PM to organize the council and elect committees.

Election night was vibrant, with considerable discussion surrounding candidates and their respective parties. However, notable members from opposition parties, including Tróndur Sigurðsson and Kári Johansen from the People’s Party, did not secure positions in the coalition. Additionally, Guttormur í Skála from the Civic List successfully formed an alliance with the other major parties, the Republic and the Social Democrats, during the final moments of the electoral process.

In a separate election, Bergur R. Dam Joensen achieved a commendable result in Kollafjørður, showcasing the citizens’ support for new leadership in various constituencies.

This new government composition marks a significant turn in Tórshavn’s political landscape, as it aims to address the pressing needs articulated by the electorate.
