A recent ruling by the Eastern Regional Court has upheld previous decisions regarding arson incidents that occurred in Stykkið in September 2021. A man in his early twenties was sentenced to a year and a half in prison without parole for setting fire to structures, with the fire becoming extensive enough to damage a neighboring house.

Both affected properties sustained significant damage. The individual was also found guilty of igniting a car on the same evening as the Stykkið fire. He appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court, denying his involvement in the car fire.

However, the Supreme Court confirmed the sentence from the lower court.

In a related case, another man also in his early twenties faced charges but was acquitted of involvement in the arson. The prosecution is contesting this acquittal in the Supreme Court, arguing that he played a role in the fire-setting. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court upheld the earlier verdict.

Additionally, this man received a three-month conditional prison sentence for burglary and a separate violent crime. As part of his punishment, he is required to complete 80 hours of community service, a decision that was also affirmed by the Supreme Court.
