Nine newly elected members of Vágur city council meet to discuss mayoral position

In the middle of the day, the nine newly elected members of the Vágur city council gathered for discussions. Their meeting extended until just after midnight, primarily focusing on the pivotal issue of the mayoral position.

Arni D. Brattaberg, who received the second-highest number of votes in the recent council elections, confirmed that further negotiations are scheduled for today at noon.

“When we parted last night, we agreed not to take any action before noon today,” Brattaberg stated. “We also concurred that there would be no behind-the-scenes agreements.”

The Social Democrats made strides in the election, notable for Levi Mørk, who outperformed the current mayor. Mørk garnered 131 votes, becoming the top candidate, while the sitting mayor, Bjarni Johansen, received 108 votes.

The elected council members for Vágur include Arni D. Brattaberg, Bárður G. Nielsen, Rógvi Kærbech, and Jónleyg Olivia Finnsdóttir from the National Party, along with Levi Mørk, Bjarni Johansen, and Rakul í Lágabø representing the Social Democrats, and Marin Gaardlykke and Erhard Joensen from the Union Party.

Attempts to reach representatives from the other parties for comment have been unsuccessful, as no one has responded to inquiries.
