A crane truck toppled onto a daycare center in Helsinki due to a driver error, according to the city’s reports. An investigation has revealed that the crane’s safety system was not active at the time of the incident, which occurred last Thursday. The accident resulted in the crane contacting the storage building of the Verkkosaari daycare.

In response to the event, the city instructed the contractor Peab to halt all work on the site. Peab has since been evaluating the situation and reviewing safety protocols with city officials. Additionally, the regional administrative office has conducted its own assessment of the worksite.

The city has now permitted Peab to resume certain operations, such as interior work, the construction of an underground parking facility, and balcony painting. However, this approval does not extend to outdoor construction activities on the daycare side or any facade work that requires crane assistance.
