Police uncover assassination plot against SVT employee in Sweden
During a police raid connected to gang-related crimes, law enforcement uncovered a serious threat against a member of the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation (SVT). An encrypted chat revealed a request for the assassination of the SVT employee, with an individual volunteering to carry out the act. The authorities have reportedly not been able to identify the person responsible for these murder plans.
The threat was allegedly made due to the employee’s public role. In response, the police have taken the threat seriously, prompting the employee to leave their residence for a period of time. SVT’s communications director, Camilla Hagert, has chosen not to comment on matters concerning employee safety. Åsa Barsness, SVT’s HR and Communications Director, emphasized the importance of taking all threats against public figures seriously, noting, “Every threat against individuals in public roles is a threat to freedom of expression. While we take these threats very seriously, we do not allow them to influence our editorial decisions.”
The situation remains sensitive, and SVT is likely focusing on the safety of its personnel while continuing its commitment to public broadcasting.
