Heavy rainfall in the Westfjords has resulted in multiple landslides since last night. The ground has become saturated due to recent precipitation, leading to the closure of the road through Ísafjardardjúp, with no indication of when it will reopen.

The Eyrarhlíð road, connecting Hnífsdalur and Ísafjörður, was blocked following a landslide around 3 PM today. Local authorities have confirmed that this route is now closed for the time being.

Emil Ólafur Ragnarsson, who works in Bolungarvík but resides in Flateyri, mentioned in a conversation that he is awaiting further details. He expressed concern about being able to return home until the weather improves, emphasizing the severity of the conditions.

As the situation evolves, communities in the Westfjords are facing challenges due to the adverse weather. Landslides have occurred at several locations, causing evacuations and localized flooding in the region.

Authorities continue to monitor the weather and road conditions, preparing for potential updates.
