Recent research reveals alarming statistics about violence against young women in a specific age group. A study shows that half of women aged 16 to 25 have experienced physical violence, threats of violence, or sexual violence. The findings also indicate that one in five young women has encountered severe violence or rape. Among those in relationships, 20% of young women reported experiencing intimate partner violence.
A specialized researcher highlighted that young women are particularly vulnerable, facing violence across various aspects of life. This reality has not been adequately addressed in recent discussions, such as those concerning birth rates, despite the long-lasting effects that partner violence can have on victims’ lives.
The newly released data coincides with a survey assessing men’s attitudes toward violence against women. While most men reject violence against women—with 90% stating that it is always wrong—21% believed that women could deserve to face violence.
Research further indicates that women aged 18 to 25 are more frequently threatened by current or former partners than by others. Reports of severe violence, including attempted rape, are similarly prevalent from partners and others. Specifically, 6% of young women reported experiencing severe violence from a partner, while 5% cited violence from others. The survey noted that partner violence tends to be recurring and more severe than violence perpetrated by others, significantly impacting mental well-being.
Victims of violence can seek support through various organizations that provide help and resources.
