Tórsbyrgi community in Faroe Islands transitions to green energy with heat pump solution
This morning, the residential community of Tórsbyrgi in the Faroe Islands transitioned to green energy. Previously, the 36 households relied on approximately 80,000 liters of oil annually for heating, but this practice has now become a thing of the past, according to Høgni í Stórustovu, a member of the residents’ association.
Initially, the plan was to connect to the geothermal heating system at Boðanesheimur, but numerous challenges led to the abandonment of that idea. Now, a decision has been made to implement a heat pump solution.
Today marked the end of oil heating, which had been in operation since 1976. This shift signifies a commitment to sustainability and a move towards renewable energy sources in the community.
