A man has been sentenced to ten years in prison by the Oulu District Court for murder in Meri-Toppila that occurred in June. Ahmet Amir Abdullaziz, born in 1996, fatally stabbed a local man nine times with a knife. The incident stemmed from a botched drug deal, as Abdullaziz discovered that the amphetamine he was sold was actually brewer’s sugar.
The violent confrontation took place on June 13th on Sellukatu. In court, Abdullaziz acknowledged the stabbing but claimed he acted in self-defense. He argued that his actions could at most be considered excessive self-defense leading to aggravated assault and manslaughter, asserting that the victim had a knife in the situation as well.
Surveillance footage from the scene was presented as evidence in court. The court concluded that the videos demonstrated Abdullaziz was agitated during the encounter and did not leave despite several opportunities to do so. The ruling noted that it was clear the rage stemming from the deception was a motivating factor behind Abdullaziz’s actions. Ultimately, the court determined that the stabbing met the criteria for murder and was not a case of self-defense.
In addition to his prison sentence, Abdullaziz has been ordered to pay over โฌ10,000 in damages to the victim’s family. The sentence is not yet final, as he has the right to appeal to the Court of Appeal. The Oulu District Court delivered its judgment today.
