Landslides occurred at multiple locations in the Westfjords during the night, impacting six roads and causing widespread flooding in the region. Continuous rainfall is expected, prompting authorities to urge residents to exercise caution.

The slides were reported in several areas, including Dýrafjörður, Hestfjörður, Eyrarhlíð near Ísafjörður, Dynjandisheiði, and outside of Spilli near Súgandafjörður. In addition, a landslide affected a water source near Flateyri, leading to concerns about water contamination in Bolungarvík and Flateyri. Consequently, the route through Ísafjarðardjúp has been closed due to the incidents.

This recent heavy rainfall has saturated the soil in the area, and the weather forecast indicates continued precipitation today, albeit at reduced levels. Tomorrow, conditions are expected to improve with less rain. Despite this, the risk of further landslides and rockfalls remains high, particularly on steep slopes where water flows down, further saturating the already wet ground.

Most reported landslides have affected roads, and clearer assessments will emerge as daylight breaks. Authorities are advising the public to remain vigilant near ravines and watercourses, to stay updated on weather alerts, and to heed any traffic restrictions.
