The Trøndelag regional board of the Labour Party has reviewed all requests concerning the transfer of members from Trond Giske’s local group, Nidaros Social Democratic Forum, to other branches. This information was disclosed in a press release following an extraordinary board meeting held on Monday evening.

The board has identified several breaches of proper organizational practices during the nomination process for Giske’s candidacy for a parliamentary seat. The decision to investigate these irregularities was made two weeks ago, amid concerns about the integrity of the nomination procedures.

Emil Raaen, deputy leader of Trøndelag’s Labour Party, indicated that while they have received numerous inquiries, they will refrain from commenting on individual incidents as they look into certain matters. He particularly highlighted the problematic nature of collective member transfers during the nomination process, asserting that such practices cannot continue.

Raaen emphasized the necessity for amendments to the party’s regulations, which should be discussed at the national meeting. These changes would ensure that collective member transfers are prohibited and that local party branches elect representatives for nomination meetings in accordance with established bylaws.

In response, Giske countered that the member transfers were consistent with good organizational practices and aligned with amendments made by the national meeting last year. He expressed disagreement with the board’s position and encouraged a focus on political issues that directly affect people’s lives, rather than internal disputes about bylaws.

Prior to the board meeting, Ingvild Kjerkol, the local party leader, noted the importance of discussing organizational matters while stressing member privacy and the need to protect their rights.
