Gunnarsson demands investigation into alleged espionage involving son in Iceland
In recent developments, a member of parliament has called for an investigation into what he describes as serious espionage involving his son. Jón Gunnarsson claims that the recordings of a meeting between his son and an unnamed individual, which included discussions about Icelandic whaling, warrant police scrutiny.
Gunnarsson revealed the situation on his Facebook page, outlining that a well-organized deception has unfolded over the past few weeks. An individual posing as a Swiss investor approached his son, who works in real estate, expressing interest in investing in properties in Iceland. The supposed investor traveled to the country and met with Gunnarsson’s son.
Last week, it came to light that the individual misrepresented his credentials, leading Gunnarsson to accuse him of manipulating his son without any genuine intent to conduct business. Instead, he suggests that the man aimed to eavesdrop on conversations about whaling for clandestine recordings.
On Friday, two journalists contacted Jón and his son to inquire further about the alleged discussions. Despite extensive searches, Jón claims he found no information about the man and is unaware of any connection between him and the journalists.
The encounter has taken a toll on Gunnarsson’s family, who are now considering involving law enforcement. He argues that if the police fail to investigate, it reflects concerning espionage activities targeting high-level government officials. He stresses the gravity of such actions, highlighting their detrimental impact on the country’s democracy.
