A recent study conducted by economist and marine researcher Magni Laksafoss highlights that the best fishing opportunities for the Faroe Islands’ longline vessels are found at the Flemish Cap.
Laksafoss compared the fishing success of the longline fleets operating in the Faroese continental shelf and the Faroe Bank with that of vessels in Iceland, Greenland, and the Flemish Cap.
Last Friday, the freezer longliner Kambur returned from an extensive six-week fishing expedition at the Flemish Cap, reporting remarkable results. Over a span of 24 days, the ship caught around 400 tons of dressed cod, according to reports from the Faroese Seamen’s Mission.
Kambur is scheduled to dock in Kollafjørður, after which it will set sail for Iceland to fish its allocated quota in those waters.
