Finnish President Alexander Stubb to honor fathers with state decoration starting in 2025
Starting in 2025, Finnish President Alexander Stubb will begin awarding a state honor to fathers. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.
The honor in question is the same as the Mother’s Day decoration, specifically the First Class Medal with Golden Crosses from the Order of the White Rose of Finland. As a result of this new initiative, the annual “Father of the Year” awards, which have been presented since 2006, will be discontinued.
Nominations for the Father’s Day honor will be submitted to regional administrative agencies. Based on these nominations, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will make recommendations for the honors to the orders. The awards will be presented during a national celebration on Father’s Day, organized by Väestöliitto, the Family Federation of Finland.
