New regulations concerning fertility treatment in the Faroe Islands are now underway.

A proposal regarding state legislation—a law that aligns with Danish regulations—has been sent out for public consultation.

Currently, there are no legal guidelines governing fertility treatment in the Faroe Islands. In neighboring countries, rules regarding treatment for infertility are well-established.

The proposal addresses key issues, including the conditions required to access infertility treatment and whether the government should fund the treatment fully or partially.

The aim of this proposal is to ensure rights and responsibilities when seeking assistance in becoming parents.

It is crucial to guarantee equal access to infertility treatments for everyone while clearly outlining the conditions and rights applicable to these services, according to the Ministry of Health.

The legislation will also specify when and under what circumstances research may be conducted in this field.
